Not The Fastest Marathon

On Saturday, April 12th I did the Mt. Diablo Trail Marathon. Hosted by Pacific Coast Trail Runs, there was a 50 mile option and the marathon. I elected to "only" do the marathon. I wasn't feeling that great the morning of. I didn't feel like I slept adequately even though I went to bed at 10pm and awoke around 5am in order to eat and drive over to Clayton for a 7am start.

This race is brutal. The temperatures got up to 90 degrees by early afternoon. The total elevation gain was 7600'. That's almost 3 miles of up and down. The run took me 5:52 and it was more like an adventure race than a marathon.

Hardest run I have ever done. Longest event I have ever done by time. On the positive I never cramped up but I got really dehydrated despite drinking more than I ever have before. The last few miles where it was flattest and I actually had the legs to run I was trying not to throw up and go to the hospital. I could have passed a lot of people at the end, so it was a good learning experience. If I had known that there was no aid station for the last 8 miles I would have carried two bottles (this was my first time carrying a bottle).

Quicksilver will be interesting.

My legs feel fine and after drinking over 4 liters of water throughout the rest of Saturday I finally went to the bathroom.
